What is Limited Coverage?

Limited coverage is the default coverage option provided by most moving companies. It generally provides basic protection for your belongings while they are in transit, but it is usually limited to a certain amount per pound of your items. This means that if your belongings are lost or damaged during the move, the moving company is only responsible for reimbursing you up to a certain amount per pound of the items that were damaged or lost.

What does "60 Cents Per Pound" mean?

Imagine you have an item that weighs 10 pounds. If something happens to the item during your move, your moving company will only give you $6.00, or 60 cents per pound to replace it. That’s because the “60 cents per pound” coverage means that for every pound you move, the moving company will only give you 60 cents if anything gets damaged or lost.

Why Limited Liability also called "Basic Coverage" and "60 Cents Per Pound"?

Limited Liability Insurance is also called “Basic Coverage” and “60 Cents Per Pound” because it is the minimum required by the Department of Transportation and U.S. Federal Law. There is no extra charge for this protection, but you need to accept it by signing for it on the Bill of Lading.

What is full value protection?

Full value protection is an optional add-on service offered by moving companies. It provides more comprehensive coverage for your belongings while they are in transit. If your belongings are lost, damaged, or destroyed during the move, the moving company is responsible for repairing or replacing them, or providing you with a cash settlement for the full current market value of the items.

Items Covered Under Limited Liability

A Bill of Lading is a legal document that outlines the details of your move. You’ll see details on the items being moved, the type of coverage you have selected, and any applicable fees and charges.

Full Value Protection deductibles

The deductible is your initial out-of-pocket payment prior to our coverage for damages or losses. It varies based on your belongings’ value. Roadway provides $500 and $1,000 deductibles. Ask our specialist for terms and conditions clarification.

Limited Liability or "60 Cents Per Pound"

It’s known as “Basic Coverage” or “60 Cents Per Pound” as per the Department of Transportation and U.S. Federal Law requirements. This protection incurs no additional fee, but you must acknowledge and sign for it on the Bill of Lading.
